Luckey's Hummel Figurines and Plates: Identification and Price Guide (12th Edition) Luckey's Hummel Figurines and Plates: Identification and Price Guide (12th Edition)

Reviews

This book is very helpful if you are buying or wanting to know the retail price of a hummel or if there are any markings you should be looking for. Luckey's does give some extra information on some hummels that Miller doesn't have in his book. One thing that would be helpful is to have color pictures of the figurines since many times a figurine's color determines it's age.

This book holds all the information any collector will need. I found it to be very useful.

I was hesitant to purchase Luckey's 12th Edition Price Guide because I have always relied on Robert L. Miller's No. 1 Price Guide in the past. However, curiosity got the better of me and I'm glad it did. It's a great reference, and a very good companion to Miller's guide. The main advantage Miller's 10th Edition No. 1 Price Guide has is all figurines are now shown in color... but the images are smaller than in previous editions. Since Luckey's guide (updated by Dean Genth) is presented in a larger format, it has larger images and text, which makes it easier to read. It also displays more images of the older trademark figurines to show the differences between the older figurines and their current production versions a bit better. This was important to me because I generally prefer to collect the older, more rare figurines. Figurine pricing is now essentially the same between the two guides, which isn't surprising considering Dean Genth owns Miller's Hallmark in Eaton, OH, the home of Robert Miller. For the average collector, or one that usually tends to purchase the newer released items, Robert Miller's guide is now more up to date. However, for the truly serious collector, Luckey's guide has more or different information on some of the more rare figurines such as those made in white overglaze and sold only in Belgium in the early days. Since I own several of these figurines, I found the information contained in Lucky's guide very useful. Highly recommended for both the novice or serious collector... but don't forget to purchase Miller's book too.

A absolute must have resource - well organized, descriptive, and easy to use. It has served me exceptionally well each time I have had to use it!

I have quiet a few Hummel books, but Luckey's Hummel Figurines and Plates, 11nd Edition is my favorite. The book did educate me in the different Trade Marks on the bottom of the Figurines, The Authors explanation is simple and clear. I purchased many Hummel figurines at Internet Auctions and found that the "Current Value" prices of Mr. Luckey's book are very conservative and very closed to the final Auction prices! I do recommend this book, it is the "real" thing!

Plates: Mary Engelbreit Plates: Mary Engelbreit

This books has beautiful pictures of groupings of different kinds of plates with a very brief history of each category (with limited samples of each kind). However, I thought it was a little thin. I read the book and looked at all the pictures thoroughly in less than an hour. Instead of a book, this item is more of a glorified magazine in small format I wanted a more thorough book. I wanted something I could refer to over and over again. I'm going to go search for another book to use in addition to this one.

If you love Mary's magazine and books like I do, you can't get enough of the photographs of special collections. I really like plates, pottery and china and the photographs in this book illustrate the special ways a collector can display, group and use plates to add color and style to a home. I especially like the photograph of the miniature Fiesta table - so darling. Where do they get the energy?Loved it, can't wait to see "Collections" coming out this month.

Many interesting ideas for displaying your plate collection. Colorful photos that are a delight for the eyes. If you know someone who collects plates, this would be a great, inexpensive gift...heck, throw in a plate too!

Hand Painted Porcelain Plates: Nineteenth Century to the Present Hand Painted Porcelain Plates: Nineteenth Century to the Present

Reviews

A rich source of inspiration for a painter on porcelain, a pleasure for an art lover!

As a collector of fine antique porcelains, I was eager to own this book, and delighted when it was finally delivered! The artistry of painting on porcelains has been presented before in other publications, but "Hand Painted Porcelain Plates: Nineteenth Century to the Present" provides a new benchmark in terms of both text information and illustration. With superb photographic technique, each image captures the magnificent color, form and art and the captions describing the age, area of origin and artist are very well done. The plate chapters are arranged by country. German, Austrian and Bohemian plates include a history of manufacture, and makers like Richard Klemm, Ambrosius Lamm and other notable producers of Dresden porcelain, as well as portrait specimens produced by KPM and the artists of Vienna are included in this important chapter. World class English porcelains are well-represented, with stunning and rare Worcester examples, as well as outstanding painted plates from Coalport, Davenport, Minton and Wedgwood. I enjoyed the recognition afforded to the venerable firm of John Aynsley, and the painted scenic view plates are generally missed by other publications on antique and collectible porcelains. Many French porcelain makers set the decorating standard for others, and the chapter devoted to the makers from France, including Limoges and Sevres, are alone, well worth the price of the book! With important information on marks, as well as fake and reproduction plates, Richard Rendall presents a clear and comprehensive text, and the examples from Elise Abram's collection are clearly representative of the most luxurious porcelain on the planet! Recommended to both new and advanced collectors, you will not be dissappointed! This book is truly a feast for the eyes!
